About
I'm Dean Reddy, a construction planner and project manager based in Ireland. I've spent about 25 years planning large, complex technical builds, mostly semiconductor and data-centre projects, where MEP-heavy sequencing, tight handover dates and lots of interfaces are normal.
Day to day I work in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, with Bluebeam for quantities, SketchUp for phasing visuals and Excel for the trackers that hold everything together.
Why this site
Most scheduling advice is either written for software training or buried in academic papers. I wanted somewhere to write down the practical side: how to build a look-ahead people use, why a critical path jumps, how to clean up logic before a submission. Critical Path Notes is that place.
What you'll find here
- Practical how-tos for P6 and MS Project
- Schedule quality and health checks
- Look-aheads, progress updating and reporting
- Planning notes for large technical projects, kept generic and anonymised
- Tools, takeoff and templates
A few ground rules
I write about experience and the tools I actually use. I don't name clients or share project-specific information. Primavera and P6 are trademarks of Oracle, and Microsoft Project is a trademark of Microsoft. This site is independent and not affiliated with any software vendor. Sponsored content is always labelled.
